Why? Maybe it is because she has such a strong sense of self. What she is about and who she is. Acceptance perhaps? Maybe it is because she owns really excellent jewels. When I saw the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London some 15 years ago my friend Robbie and I gasped and had to cling to each in our over excitement from the splendor of it all. She also can drive a standard and that I found to be way cool. She also has her own web page and her own sense of style, most people have neither. A&E has an excellent biography of her. Catch it sometime, I highly recommend it. There are two other queens I admire. You all know Aretha. Do you know the other one?

Fifteen years or so ago my mother gave me a plate which had belonged to either my grandmother or great aunt. The plate commemerated a visit by the the Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip to Canada in 1951. That was the start of collecting Royal Family memorabilia. I have a small but cherished assortment of plates, cups, tins, bottles and other thingies covering weddings, visits, coronations and almost coronations. Some I have found here and there in shops in New England and London. Others have been given to me. There is no real explanation for any of this. Just one of those things.
